Letter to the editor: Cleveland's baseball team has lost its iconic identity

As a lifetime Cleveland sports fan, the most painful experience I've endured wasn't “The Drive,” The Fumble” or the World Series losses.

No, for me it was when Art Modell moved my beloved Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. That hit a lot fans hard, and the years we had to wait for their return was brutal. Their return hasn't been a thrill ride either, but that is for a different time.

Now, due to the Woke Revolution that swept down from Snowflake Mountain, we have lost the Cleveland Indians. First it was Chief Wahoo, but that didn't pacify Snowflake Nation. No, with the help of a spineless owner, we have lost our iconic identity and will play baseball this spring under the moniker of the Cleveland Guardians.

You can bet come Opening Day the stadium will be full, and you'll even see people wearing the whole new line of team merchandise, but if you're old school, a traditionalist like myself, it's going to be like watching a whole new team from a different organization, even if we retain most of the players we had last season.

Change is good when improvements are the result. This was not. All it did was pacify a very small sect of the population who spends their time trying to figure out what offends them. We should have stood up to this, because you never know what they'll come after next.
