Les Miles receives huge ovation, eats grass in return to LSU (Video)

Les Miles made his return to Tiger Stadium on Saturday, 13 months after he was fired. He received a massive ovation.

Miles, LSU’s head coach from 2005 until Week 4 of the 2016 season, was back on campus to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Tigers’ 2007 national championship team. Miles, who joined his players on the field, coached the team to a 12-2 record and a win over Ohio State in the BCS National Championship Game.

He even got a chance to sample his favorite Tiger Stadium grass.

Miles had a 114-34 record at LSU and won two SEC crowns and the national title, but he was fired after LSU lost at Auburn last fall. LSU won at least 10 games in seven of Miles first nine seasons as head coach, but athletic director Joe Alleva decided to go in another direction after a 2-2 start in 2016 followed records of 8-5 and 9-3 in 2014 and 2015.

Coincidentally, LSU’s celebration of the ‘07 team came during its home game against, you guessed it, Auburn. Miles’ final home game as head coach was a 23-20 win over Mississippi State on Sept. 17, 2016.

Miles wasn’t able to find another head-coaching job for 2017 after he was let go, so he has done various television work as the season has progressed. He also started a podcast.

LSU replaced Miles with Ed Orgeron, who Miles hired to be his defensive line coach. Orgeron first got the interim role but was elevated to full-time head coach after the season. LSU is 4-2 so far this season with a 2-1 mark in SEC play. The Tigers had a disastrous home loss to Troy but were able to rebound with a road win over Florida.
