Murphy on the fight's key moment

Lerone Murphy vs. Makwan Amirkhani

“I kind of envisioned the fight to go like that – first round, he takes me down, stay safe and figure out his pressures. I felt him breathing heavy toward the end of the round and I knew he’d fade slowly. When he went southpaw and threw an overhand left, he didn’t like what came at him. I feinted again and he dipped his head. I knew straight away: Feint, throw the knee, game over.”

Lerone Murphy vs. Makwan Amirkhani

“I took the fight on short notice. To get the finish against Makwan was big for me – masssive for my career. … (Edson) Barboza came off a lost, beat him and went to the top 15 straight after. Everyone knows what Makwan does, who Makwan’s been in there with. It’s a big win.”

Murphy on what he wants next

“I’m looking at the journey – my route to the title. I don’t have anybody specific – anybody between the top 10 and 15 would be great for me.”
