Leonard Floyd: Rams DC Raheem Morris talks ‘a little bit more junk’ than Brandon Staley

Leonard Floyd followed Brandon Staley from the Bears to the Rams last offseason when he signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles. It was a brilliant career move for the former first-round pick, reviving his game with 10.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 19 QB hits with the Rams – all of which were career-highs.

He’ll have a new defensive coordinator in Raheem Morris this year after Staley was hired as the Chargers’ head coach, but one area where there won’t be a drop-off is the energy that both coaches bring. Floyd told reporters on Monday that like Staley, Morris is a high-energy guy. Only, he talks a little more trash during practice than Staley did.

Morris has received rave reviews from the likes of Sean McVay this offseason, drawing compliments for his ability to adapt quickly and command the room when holding a meeting with other coaches and players.

Morris is a former head coach and has a ton of experience on the sideline, so the Rams are in good hands with their new defensive coordinator. Expectations will be high after L.A. finished first overall in yards allowed and points allowed last season, but the Rams should remain one of the best defenses in football under Morris.

As for Floyd’s role at OTAs, he plans to take on more of a mentorship role with the team’s younger players. As a veteran leader, Floyd wants to help rookies and other less experienced players in his second season with the Rams.
