LEGO has announced a buildable model of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes Formula 1 car, which will be available to buy a few weeks before the new season starts in mid-March.

While Lewis may have missed out on the drivers' title last year, he and Valtteri were part of the constructors' championship-winning Mercedes AMG F1 team – and its 2021 season W12 has been carefully rendered in brick form as part of a new Speed Champions double pack.

As well as a toy F1 car, you'll be able to build a LEGO version of a Mercedes AMG Project One hypercar, the company's high-end vehicle which takes its F1 tech straight to the road (or will when it's eventually released in real life – it's not even gone into production yet according to Car magazine).

The team teased the models, which will be available to buy from Tuesday, March 1, on Twitter, sharing photos of the toys with the real things. The set will cost £34.99 in the UK, and $29.99 in the US.

The building set (officially numbered LEGO 76909) has got 564 pieces, and includes interchangeable driver numbers for both Lewis (44) and Valtteri (77).

The F1 car toy (or 'the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance', to give the vehicle its official title) has even got options for interchangeable black and yellow on-board cameras – a small real-life detail on all Formula 1 cars so you can recognise each team's two drivers at speed.

The Mercedes W12 car model is 4cm high, 19cm long and 7cm wide, and keen F1 fans will notice that it comes supplied with full wet Pirelli tyres (identifiable by the blue branding on the outside wall). The pack also includes two little LEGO minifigures, a driver and a mechanic.

The first Formula 1 grand prix of 2022 takes place on March 20, with the traditional car launches, shakedowns and testing in the weeks prior.

There are a number of changes in F1 this year including a new spec for all teams to follow when crafting their cars, as well as some driver moves – Valtteri is leaving Mercedes for Alfa Romeo, with George Russell taking his place.

While Lewis recently signed a contract extension with Mercedes until the end of 2023, there has been a lot of – unconfirmed – speculation about whether he will continue racing after the controversial end to last year's title battle.
