Lawler, Woolf set career bests at Anderson

Mar. 18—RUSHVILLE — The Lion and Lady Lion track and field teams competed this week at the University of Indianapolis Wednesday and Anderson University Saturday. Both teams established career bests and earned spots in the Top 30 rankings along the way this indoor season.

At UIndy, Jenna Lawler and Gabby Pavey led the night for the Lady Lions. Lawler finished third in the shot put with a throw of 37-2.75. Pavey placed seventh in the pole vault.

Freshman Alayna Miller posted a time of 8.90 in the 60, edging closer to the school best time of Maddi Turner set in 2019.

Saturday at Anderson was no different for Jenna Lawler, who set a new personal best in the shot put with a toss of 39-7. That distance was not only good enough to win the event, but put Lawler third in the state for Saturday's indoor state meet.

Gabby Pavey (pole vault), Leonie Boyer (high jump) and the 4x400 team of Charlotte Caviness, Trisha Morgan, Kelsey Morgan and Carley Senour are also ranked in the top 30 in the state in their events.

For the Lions, Chase Woolf just missed the 60 record on Wednesday, but better that result Saturday. Woolf ran a career and school best time of 7.31.

Other notable performances from this week for the Lions included the two relays teams. Both the 4x400 team of Malaki Knight, Tom Harwot, Elijah Biggs and Woolf along with the 4x200 team of Quinn Barada, Malaki Knight, Chase Woolf, and Harper Miller are bubble teams for the state meet Saturday.
