KRYSTEN PEEK: LaMelo Ball is a 6 foot 7 point guard, and the younger brother of Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball.
He's had one of the craziest roads to the NBA, where he played two years at Chino Hills High School. His dad pulled him out, he'll play a year over in Lithuania, then he came back to the States and played one year at a prep school, and finally, last year, he played in Australia in the NBL for the Illawarra Hawks.
Ball has one of the tightest handles I've ever seen for a player his size, and he has a strong pick and roll game. Something his brother Lonzo didn't have coming out of UCLA.
He needs to add some weight to his frame-- he's only 190 right now-- and work on his on-ball defense. A lot of people want to compare his game to his older brother Lonzo, but I see him more of a young Shaun Livingston. Like Livingston, he's a tall guard with speed and he has a decent outside jumper.
People are going to hate on LeMelo because of his dad, LaVar, but he has all the tools to be a great NBA player, and could shock some people in the next couple years.
I don't see LaMelo dropping out of the top five this year, and he could go as high as number two overall.
