LaMarcus Aldridge supports Kaleb Canales & Ime Udoka as Blazers head coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Since Terry Stotts and the Trail Blazers mutually parted ways Friday evening, rumors of candidates have been swirling all over, including Damian Lillard going public in his desire of Jason Kidd.

Well, a Blazers legend has weighed in with who he'd like to see get a shot.

LaMarcus Aldridge tweeted he would love to see Kaleb Canales or Ime Udoka, two candidates with coaching ties to the Rose City, get a shot to succeed Terry Stotts.

Canales was hired as the Blazers video intern in 2005 before being hired to the franchise's video coordinating position. In 2009, he got promoted to an assistant coach and the team's summer league head coach in 2010.

When Nate McMillan was fired in March 2012, Canales became the youngest active head coach in the NBA (albeit in an interim basis) and the first Mexican-American coach in NBA history. He went 8-15 as the Blazers could not wait to tear it all down after the failed Raymond Felton experiment.

Canales was a finalist for the head coaching position that ultimately went to Terry Stotts, but Canales remained as assistant coach for the 2012-13 season. Since then, he has had stints with Dallas (2013-2018), New York (2018-2020) and Indiana (2020-present).

Meanwhile, Udoka graduated from Jefferson High School and Portland State before eventually making his way onto the 2006-07 Trail Blazers, Aldridge's rookie season. In 2015, Udoka, now a San Antonio assistant coach, was instrumental in luring LaMarcus away from Portland to the Lone Star State.

Udoka has 9 seasons of NBA coaching experience and currently works under Steve Nash for the NBA title favorite Brooklyn Nets.
