Lakers sign Carroll after summer league showing

Still on the heels of their run to the Vegas Summer League championship game, the Los Angeles Lakers continue to make roster moves.

A day after signing former Final Four Most Outstanding Player Joel Berry II, the team announced Thursday it signed Jeffrey Carroll and requested waivers on Malik Newman.

While terms of Carroll's deal were not announced, it was reported last month that the team was likely to sign him to an Exhibit 10 contract. That allows a team to guarantee a player some money while also retaining the option to convert the player's deal into a two-way contract.

In 118 career games (77 starts) for Oklahoma State from 2014-18, Carroll averaged 12.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 25.1 minutes per game. He averaged 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 30.7 minutes per game as a senior.

Carroll shot 48 percent and averaged 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in six summer league games for the Lakers.

Newman, who played at Kansas last season after transferring from Mississippi State, played in five summer league games, averaging 3.2 points in 9.8 minutes per game.
