LadyCats place fourth in own tournament

Jan. 8—The Palestine LadyCats soccer team began the regular season with tournament play, hosting the 2024 LadyCat Soccer East Texas Shootout. The LadyCats would go 2-2-1 over the weekend, ending the tournament in fourth place.

Palestine would end the first day of play undefeated, with their first game against Whitehouse concluding in a 2-2 draw, before putting an 11-0 drumming on Mexia. Three LadyCats would score three goals in the contest in Adetoro Adedeji, Alejandra Garcia and Allie Seat, with Ashley Perez and Suzy Reyes each adding one.

In the second day of competition, the LadyCats would fall to eventual tourney champion Athens 3-0, but would earn their second blowout victory of the weekend with a 13-0 win over Cumberland. Adedeji would lead all scores in the game, netting five goals. Other LadyCats scores included Berenice Medrano with three, Garcia with two, and Perez, Seat, and Karla Rocha added a goal each.

The LadyCats fell in their final tournament game in heartbreaking fashion, giving up two late goals in a 2-1 loss to Burnet, cementing Palestine's fourth place finish.

The LadyCats will be back on the road this weekend, as they head to Bullard to participate in their second tournament of the season. The LadyCats will begin play at 11:45 a.m. against Chapel Hill.
