Lady Tigers rough up Tatum, 13-0; Gillispie fires a no-hitter

Mar. 8—TATUM — Taylor Gillispie capped off an incredible week by pitching a no-hitter Friday night for the Troup in its 13-0 win over Tatum.

The Lady Tigers, 10-6 overall, evened their district record at 1-1 with the victory while the Lady Tigers stand 2-13, 0-1.

Gillispie, a junior, struck out 18 and walked two in earning the win in the circle.

Last Saturday she was named as the Rose City Classic's Most Valuable Player and earlier this week Gillispie announced that she had verbally committed to continue playing softball at Trinity Valley Community College, once her days as a Lady Tiger come to an end.

Bailey Blanton terrorized Lady Eagle pitching by belting a two-run homer in the fourth inning and adding in a triple and a double. The senior catcher drove in four runs in the game.

Gillispie went 3-4 at the plate and collected two RBI and MaKayla Spencer had a pair of hits in three official trips while knocking in three runs.

Another Lady Tiger that did well with the bat was Shiloh Sluder. Sluder ripped a three-base knock to highlight a 2-4 performance. She also had two RBI.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Kilgore at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

NOTE: Friday's game was originally scheduled to be played in Troup. Heavy rains Friday morning forced the game to be moved to Tatum, which has an artificial playing surface.
