Lady Rams post road win over Alamogordo

Jan. 13—ALAMOGORDO — Portales High's girls used a strong second quarter to pull away from Alamogordo en route to a 48-32 victory on Friday night.

It was the fourth consecutive win for PHS (12-4) in the Lady Rams' third true road game of the campaign.

Junior guard Myleigh Banda scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Portales. Junior guard Angel Ornelas added 12 points, including seven in the final stanza, and added five assists.

Portales stretched a one-point lead to 20-10 at halftime, outscoring the Lady Tigers 13-4 in the second period. The Lady Rams then pushed their advantage to 39-28 when junior guard Tya Rippee hit a 3-point shot from just inside halfcourt as time expired in the third frame.

All in all, it was a good win, PHS girls coach Wade Fraze said.

"We got out and ran the floor and got some easy baskets, although we left some points out there," Fraze said. "The kids just kept playing, and the tide eventually turned."

Junior forward Evannie Fulfer added eight points and five steals for Portales. Senior guard Audrey Paden didn't score, but she contributed five rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Junior center Teeya Gordon was the only player in double figures for Alamogordo (8-7), finishing with 13 points. The Lady Rams held Alamo to just 10 field goals in the contest

The Lady Rams return to the Ram Athletic Center on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. clash against Texico, with boys squads meeting in the back end of the twin bill.
