Lady Lions fourth at Connersville Sectional

Feb. 26—CONNERSVILLE — The Lady Lions joined 13 other teams at Connersville for the gymnastics sectional meet Saturday. Rushville's Bell Westphal punched her ticket to the regional in the all-around competition.

New Palestine won the team title with 100.575, just edging host Connersville's 100.525. New Castle was third with 96.225 and Rushville took fourth with 94.175. Richmond was fifth with 90.325 followed by Shelbyville 85.725, Morristown 80.900, Franklin County 65.650, Muncie Central 61.025, Southwestern 31.675, Union County 30.750, Milan 29.950, Tri 27.750 and Northeastern 8.850.

Westphal, a senior for the Lady Lions, finished second on the vault with a season-best score of 9.0. She placed third on the vars with an 8.375, eighth on the beam with an 8.175 and seventh on the floor with a season-best 8.75.

Westphal's all-around score of 34.3 was good for third place. She will compete in the regional at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Gymnastics Company.

On the day for the Lady Lions, four career best scores and two season best scores were posted. Karma Wilson had a career best 8.1 on the vault. Emme Tracy scored a career-best 7.8 on the vault. Sophia Dora received a career-best 7.05 on the beam and Gabby Pavey scored a career-best 7.725 on the floor.
