Lady Lions end playoff run with quarterfinal loss to Montgomery County

Feb. 27—The Christian Heritage School girls basketball team matched the program's deepest playoff run in school history, but the Lady Lions will have to settle for that state quarterfinal appearance.

Christian Heritage's playoff run was halted with a 69-54 road loss at one-loss Montgomery County in Mount Vernon Tuesday in the Class A DII Sweet 16.

Montgomery County (29-1) advances to the state semifinals to play Clinch County, and Christian Heritage ends the season at 18-11.

Christian Heritage battled alongside the team that finished the regular season ranked third in the state for most of the game.

After falling behind 15-6 after a quarter, the Lady Lions scored 10 of the first 12 points in the second to cut Montgomery County's lead to one.

Montgomery pushed its advantage to 33-23 at halftime and led 53-39 after three quarters.

Christian Heritage dipped the lead back under 10 at 60-51 with two minutes left, but the Region 3 champions pulled further away in the final minutes.

The Lady Lions finish the year with their second state quarterfinal appearance, matching the 2018 squad, just two seasons removed from an 0-19 finish.
