Lady Jackets extend winning streak to five

Mar. 19—Lee County soccer kept rolling Friday afternoon, hitting the road for a Sandhills Athletic Conference showdown at Hoke County and coming away with a second straight shutout win, blanking the Lady Bucks 4-0.

The Lady Jackets, who played a late Monday night game at Cape Fear that ended after press time for this issue, won their fifth straight match. Lee entered Monday as one of three teams unbeaten in Sandhills Athletic Conference play, but stands alone at 3-0, while Southern Lee and Pinecrest are both just 1-0.

Against Hoke, the Lady Jackets held just a 1-0 lead at the half, but then busted the game open with three second-half goals. Sophomore Brittany Guerrero Montiel had two of the goals, with Abigail Gaddy-Harrison and Lily Currin each scoring once. Lila Moshfegh had two assists, and Ava Baldwin and Ava Perez one each.

Diana Ponce went the distance in the goal and made four saves to earn her second shutout in a row.

Lee County will host Overhills on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
