Lady Eagle Volleyball to take on Palestine in playoff seeding match

Oct. 26—RUSK — For the 11th-straight season the Rusk High School Lady Eagle volleyball team has qualified for the playoffs.

Rusk will face Palestine in a key playoff seeding match that will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at the John Alexander Gymnasium in Jacksonville.

The Lady Eagles (19-17, 6-4), who ended the regular season Tuesday night by beating Jacksonville 3-0, and the Ladycats ended the regular season tied for third place in the District 18-4A standings.

The winner of the seeding match will represent the district as the No. 3 team when the Class 4A Region III playoffs commence early next week and will take on Carthage (16-13, 9-3), the District 17-4A runner-up in the bi-district round.

The loser of Friday's match will have the unenviable task of facing No. 3-ranked Spring Hill (36-5, 12-0) in the first round of the playoffs.

Spring Hill is the District 17-4A champion.

The Lady Eagles have four seniors on this year's roster. That group includes Sarah Boudreaux, Kenzie Norton, Julianna Mendoza and Nicole Burkhalter.

Juniors on the squad include: Claire Tipton, Gracie McCown, Ava Kozlovsky and Alyjia Katon.

Completing head coach Corrina Ford's team are sophomores Ainslee Vargas and Aubrey Hassell, along with freshman Lillian Gates.
