Green Hill wins '24 opener like it's 2023; takes 41st straight Win

MT. JULIET — It's a new year, but Green Hill started the 2024 softball season Wednesday like it spent most of '23 — by winning.

The Lady Hawks opened defense of their state championship with their 41st straight win, 15-5 over visiting Riverdale in a rematch of last year's state tournament first round game.

After spotting the Lady Warriors a run in the top of the first inning, the Lady Hawks picked up where they left off with five in the bottom half. They duplicated that production in the second, tacked on three in the third and run-ruled Riverdale with two in the fifth.

Maliyah Wilkins blasted two home runs, driving in four scores, for the Lady Hawks. Emily Legrand also homered and doubled as she drove in two runs. Maddie McIntyre knocked in three runs on two doubles and a single. Avary Stockwell doubled twice and Chezney Whipker once. Kendall Davis added one two-bagger and drove in two scores.

Junior Kyla Harris pitched the final three innings in relief, holding Riverdale to a run on one hit with three strikeouts in relief of starter Savannah Wilson.
