Lady Colonels fall to South Laurel on the road, 76-40

Jan. 23—Shelbie Mills and Skeeter Mabe put on a scoring clinic Tuesday evening to help South Laurel cruise past Whitley County, 76-40.

The Lady Colonels kept it close after the first quarter as they only trailed, 16-12. But then the Lady Cardinals pulled away in the second quarter to take a 41-21 lead into halftime.

Mills and Mabe both tallied 25 points apiece to lead South Laurel who improved their record to 12-8 on the season.

Whitley County, who now has a 12-6 record, was led by Maddy Hopkins and her 12 points.

The Lady Cardinals will look to keep the momentum going when they host Bell County on Saturday night. The Lady Colonels will try to bounce back when they visit Corbin on Friday.
