Lady Bulldogs ground Lady Jets
Nov. 3—HOPE — Batesville opened the girls basketball season with a road trip to Hauser to face the Lady Jets. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter en route to a 57-28 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs extended the lead to 33-12 at the half. In the third, Batesville outscored the Lady Jets 15-10 before closing out the victory with a 9-6 fourth quarter.
Alyson Peters led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Marlee Obermeyer chipped in with nine points and two assists. Lydia Haskamp and Claire Saner both scored eight points. Haskamp pulled down five rebounds. Saner had a team-high two steals.
Sophie Gesell finished with four points and a team-leading six assists. Nora Wiedman added three points and two assists. Maddie Haskamp, Grace Walter and Kaylin Kathmann all scored two points.
Hauser was led in scoring by Norah Berkenstock with 10 points. Mattie Foster finished with eight points. Bella Kilps scored six points. Abby Manley had three points and Braelyn Williams hit a free throw for one point.
Foster grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Kilps and Erykah Everroad both had three rebounds. Berkenstock and Everroad both dished out two assists to lead the Lady Jets. Berkenstock also had a team-high five steals.
The junior varsity Lady Bulldogs got their first win of the season, defeating Hauser 30-17.
Batesville held a 6-4 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Lady Jets 11-2 in the second quarter to lead 17-6 at the half. The lead grew to 26-8 after three quarters.
The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Sydney Campbell with eight points.
The Lady Bulldogs host New Palestine (0-1) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
