Lady Bears overpower Lebanon

Mar. 20—Annalise Mecklenburg and Savanna Schaffer each hit two home runs on a blustery Monday to power visiting Mt. Juliet to a 20-4 pounding of Lebanon.

Cloe Younggren homered to left field and Mecklenburg and Schaffer to center to lead off the Lady Bears' seven-run fourth inning. Brookelynn Aldridge later doubled in two runs and Annabella Brewer hit a two-run single in an inning which finally ended when Lebanon right-fielder Lillie Huddleston turned a double play by catching a fly ball and doubling a runner off first base.

But the Lady Bears were back at it with eight more in the fifth. Schaffer homered to left. Aldridge and Taylor Haymans hit RBI singles, Hailey Stewart a sacrifice fly, Younggren an RBI double and Mecklenburg a three-run bomb to center.

Mecklenburg drove in five runs on the day, beginning with a first-inning sacrifice fly. Schaffer followed with an RBI single.

Stewart singled to right field in the second inning to score two runs with a third coming in on an error.

Haymans pitched the full five innings for Mt. Juliet, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Bears banged out 21 hits. Schaffer went 4-for-4. Haymans, Stewart, Younggren, Aldridge, Avery Haymans and Kendal Bucher each had multiple hits.

Reagan Schmitz had two of Lebanon's hits.

Lebanon hosted Springfield last night and is scheduled to open the new District 7-4A schedule at home against Stewarts Creek at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Mt. Juliet will welcome Dickson County to Mike Gwaltney Field next Monday.
