L/L-M boys hoops gets 55-45 win over M/P-B in District 2 tourney

Feb. 23—JAMESTOWN — The LaMoure/Litchville-Marion boys' basketball team was able to withstand a third-quarter run from Medina-Pingree-Buchanan to get a 55-46 win in the first round of the District tournament on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Jamestown Civic Center.

The game started tight as the teams traded the lead back and forth with the Loboes heading into the second quarter up 16-14.

"I thought in the first quarter we played good," Thunder head coach Bob Young said. "We played with a lot of intensity, some of the things we wanted to do worked. So, I was pleased with the way we started the game. I thought we busted their pressure and got some layups in the full court. I thought we should've played maybe a little bit better defense but overall I wasn't that disappointed in our play right when the game started."

Early in the second quarter, the Loboes' Gunner Thielges hit a jumper to push his team's lead out to 18-14, and they were able to stretch it to 24-14 before the Thunder were able to cut into it but the Loboes (12-8) again responded as they took a 31-19 lead into the half.

"I think it came down to us starting to get stops," Loboes head coach Tyler Thielges said. "We kind of buckled down and pressured ball handlers. It's no secret against Medina you're really keyed in on Rylan Wick, he's a special talent, special player and it was our goal to make everything difficult especially for him and for the most part we were able to do that tonight."

The Thunder (11-9) were able to cut into their deficit with a big third quarter as they trimmed the deficit down to 35-27 late in the third and kept it going in the fourth bringing it as close as 46-38. However, the Loboes would manage to pull away from there getting the nine-point win.

The Loboes return to the floor at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, when they take on Edgeley/Kulm-Montpelier. The Thunder attempt to bounce back at 3 p.m. on Feb. 26, when they take on Kidder County.
