Kyrie Irving may not celebrate Christmas or care much about making a statement against his old team, but the Nets point guard made sure to put on a show throughout Brooklyn’s 123-95 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday.

Irving scored 37 points on 13-for-21 shooting, going 7-for-10 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. His 37 points are a new Nets franchise record for points scored in a Christmas Day game, breaking Michael Ray Richardson’s 36-year old record (36 points vs. the New York Knicks in 1984). Irving has led the Nets in scoring in both of their 2020-21 games, finishing with 26 points against the Golden State Warriors in the season-opener on Tuesday.

Irving and Kevin Durant (29 points vs. Boston) combined for 66 points on Friday after accounting for 48 of Brooklyn’s 125 against the Warriors.

Irving also had eight assists, six rebounds and one steal on Friday. He also only had one turnover in 33 minutes of action.
