Nets guard Kyrie Irving has become an opposing voice to the NBA's restart plan recently, voicing concerns about the resumptions. Recently, his concerns have gone as far as a report saying that Irving has proposed the idea of a player-run league.
In a recent chat group with Nets players, Kyrie Irving lobbied for skipping the bubble, the Daily News has learned. In that chat, he also proposed that the players can start their own league, according to a source. https://t.co/SqC0wcccPJ— Stefan Bondy (@SBondyNYDN) June 16, 2020
The idea of a player-run league was proposed a group chat with other Brooklyn players, according to New York Daily News reporter Stefan Bondy.
Irving remains hesitant to support the league's resumption due to concerns about player safety as well as the issue of racial injustice in the country.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has explained that players have the ability to opt-out of the return with the loss of pay.
Rather than participate in the bubble and Orlando, it appears the veteran guard feels a league started by the players is a route to go. This could be due to his skepticism of the rules at Disney World or his desire to keep the attention on the social issues. Either way, it seems as if he is continuing to keep his stance that the current plan for the NBA's return is not what should be done.

Despite no real concerns that the league will not resume at this time, Irving is not the only one who has his doubts. Wizards point guard John Wall won't play this season no matter what but voiced that he would not feel safe participating if he could.
Should Irving and others end up skipping the NBA restart whether it is in the form of a different league or a boycott, their absence would completely change the dynamic of the season.
