Kyrie Irving, Nets fined for violating league media policy

Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets were each fined $30,000 for violating the league’s policy on media availability, the league announced Wednesday.

The league said Irving’s “repeated refusal to participate” in postgame media sessions this season precipitated the fine.

Back in December, Irving was fined $25,000 for refusing to speak to the media. He left the public with a statement saying, “My goal this season is to let my work on and off the court speak for itself.” Irving went on to say that “life hit differently this year and it requires us, it requires me, to move differently. So, this is the beginning of that change.”

Irving was fined $50,000 and forfeited salary for missed games after violating the league’s COVID-19 protocols in January.
