Kyrie Irving got into a hilarious Duke basketball debate with a kid at Boston Children's Hospital

When Kyrie Irving went with several of his Boston Celtics teammates to visit patients at Boston Children’s Hospital, he most likely expected to meet kids who need a smile or two, talk a little bit of basketball and sing some carols while wearing a giant, green Christmas tree hat that makes him look like a Christmas wizard. He probably didn’t expect to get into an intense college basketball conversation with anyone, let alone a kid.

And yet Irving found himself doing just that. Bleacher Report captured Boston Children’s Instagram story, which shows Irving and a young kid getting into it about college basketball.

Things were fine until the kid brought up Duke, Irving’s alma mater. Duke is 7-1 this season, with the only loss coming against Gonzaga in the Maui Invitational. Irving’s response was perfect. “Whoa, we were just talking about Michigan-UNC, you didn’t have to bring Duke into it!” No he did not, but this kid had things to say to Kyrie Irving about basketball and he was going to shoot his shot.

The two continued to playfully argue, with Irving at one point saying “because we’re Duke. That’s why. That’s why you’re so mad! Because we’re Duke!” The kid really didn’t want to give Duke any credit, but he did in the end. When he was asked to take his biases out of it, he admitted that Duke was one of the best teams he’s seen.

You have to give that little dude credit for having the guts to go toe-to-toe with Duke’s own Kyrie Irving about whether Duke is overrated. And he had the goods to back it up, too!
