Kyrie fined $50K by NBA, will also forfeit salary for games during quarantine originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Kyrie Irving's wallet got a little lighter Friday.

The NBA fined the Brooklyn Nets guard $50,000 for violating the league's health and safety protocols that were put in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Videos surfaced earlier this week of Irving attending a private, indoor birthday party

The league also noted that Irving will forfeit his salary for the games he missed while in quarantine. If Irving continues to test negative, he can re-join the team Saturday. In that case, the veteran guard will have missed two games during his quarantine.

The Nets made a blockbuster trade for superstar guard James Harden on Thursday, pairing him with Kevin Durant and Irving to form the newest "Big 3". If Irving returns to the Nets on Saturday, it's possible the Harden-Durant-Irving trio will make its debut Monday during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matchup versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

Irving has not played for the Nets since Jan. 5.
