Kyler Murray confirms he'll sit out NFL combine drills, perform at Oklahoma's pro day

Kyler Murray’s NFL combine trip will officially be limited to two activities: getting measured and talking to people.

One of the NFL draft’s most talked about prospects told reporters Friday that he does not plan to participate in any drills at this week’s NFL combine. The 21-year-old said he plans to instead perform at Oklahoma’s NFL pro day.

“I’m doing nothing, I’m just doing interviews,” Murray said. “I’ll be doing everything at pro day. I intend to run on pro day.”

“That’s the timeline that me, my family, my agent, my coaches felt was best,” Murray said when asked why he made the decision.

This decision was expected, and reportedly not a surprise to NFL teams, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

This isn’t a particularly shocking decision from Murray, as top quarterback prospects sitting out drills at the combine in favor of the much more controlled environment of their school’s pro day is basically a tradition at this point. It rarely affects draft stock.

Still, very few prospects have Murray’s background, so the choice will naturally raise a few eyebrows and whispers about Murray’s commitment, as if forgoing a signing bonus of nearly $5 million from the Oakland Athletics isn’t already enough.

Even without throwing or running, Murray has already made plenty of waves at the combine by measuring in at over 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, and he figures to speak with several teams, including the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.
