Kyle Schwarber's home run against the Cubs was powered by a candy bar
Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber needed some extra help to hit a home run against his former team. After grounding out in his first at-bat, Schwarber found a helpful item waiting for him in the outfield.
It was a Twix candy bar. Chicago Cubs outfielder Kris Bryant left it as a gift for Schwarber. The two were teammates for six seasons with the Cubs. Schwarber played a key role in the Cubs breaking their World Series drought in 2016, but left the team in free agency following the 2020 MLB season.
Schwarber couldn't wait until after the game to enjoy the candy bar, and decided to eat it between innings. In his next at-bat, Schwarber clubbed a two-run homer.
Coincidence? Schwarber doesn't think so.

While Schwarber's home run was big, it didn't help the Nationals all that much. The team lost the contest 7-3.
Jon Lester also made return to Chicago
Schwarber wasn't the only former Cubs player to return to the team. Left-handed starter Jon Lester started against his former team. Lester allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs. He was charged with the loss.
Though both players opposed the Cubs on Monday, Lester and Schwarber received standing ovations from the fans at Wrigley Field.
While Lester won't face the Cubs again during this series, Schwarber will have a shot to do more damage against his former team. After Monday's candy bar-fueled power outburst, we're guessing Schwarber won't be getting any more snacks from his former teammates in the days to come.
