Juice has perfect tweet for 49ers' continued QB injury issues originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
It's been a long season for the 49ers, but fullback Kyle Juszczyk hasn't lost his sense of humor during the trying 2020 campaign.
Regular starter Jimmy Garoppolo has missed the last six games because of his second high ankle sprain. The 49ers opened the practice window for Garoppolo on Tuesday, but 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said it's unlikely Garoppolo will be able to play or back up C.J. Beathard on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.
With the 49ers down to Beathard, Juszczyk fired off a humorous tweet regarding the team's current QB situation.
Juszczyk and running back Jerick McKinnon are the 49ers' emergency quarterbacks. The team reportedly will sign quarterback Josh Rosen, a former first-round draft pick and starter, off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad in order to have a backup for the game against the Cardinals.
Shanahan has said that he would choose McKinnon, who played quarterback in college, over Juszczyk if the 49ers were faced with an emergency QB situation.
McKinnon was a triple-option quarterback who did most of his damage on the ground at Georgia Southern. He finished his college career with 4,138 all-purpose yards, 42 rushing touchdowns and 12 passing TDs.
Juszczyk told reporters Tuesday that he'll stay ready in case he has to take snaps Saturday, and will try to move ahead of McKinnon on the emergency depth chart during practice this week.
With Mullens out, Garoppolo still healing and practice-squad quarterback Josh Johnson on the reserve/COVID list, the 49ers' cupboard is awfully thin at quarterback. But Juszczyk will stay ready, just in case his number is called.
