DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Don’t look for Kyle Busch to be driving for another team in 2020.

Busch said Wednesday that he and Joe Gibbs Racing were close to officially agreeing to a contract extension to keep him with the team after the 2019 season. Busch said “it’s all been agreed to” and it’s just a matter of making the contract extension a formality.

The 2015 Cup Series champion has been with JGR since leaving Hendrick Motorsports after the 2006 season as Dale Earnhardt Jr. went to Hendrick. Forty-seven of Busch’s 51 career Cup Series victories have come with JGR.

None of those victories have included the Daytona 500. For Busch, that’s atop his hypothetical racing bucket list. While Busch has won at every active track on the NASCAR schedule — including at Daytona in July — he’s never won the 500. After finishing third in the 2016 Daytona 500, Busch has been caught in crashes in each of the last two.

“There’s plenty on there for sure, but the biggest one, the top item is the Daytona 500,” Busch said. “I would certainly like to knock that off a lot sooner than later, but hopefully – eventually, whether it’s the last year I do it, I can get one but that’ll be seen later on.”
