Kobe Bryant 'dream court' honoring the legend, Gianna unveiled in hometown of Philadelphia

Kobe Bryant's legacy has been further cemented in his hometown of Philadelphia on a new basketball court that pays homage to the late legend and his daughter Gianna.

Vanessa Bryant and their thee daughters -- Natalia, 19, Bianka, 5, and Capri, 2 -- were on hand with city officials on Tuesday to unveil a new court at the Tustin Recreational Playground in Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood, where Vanessa Bryant said her "husband’s love for basketball all began."

"I chose this location so that young people in this community may have a safe space to play with equal opportunity which was important to Kobe and Gianna," Vanessa Bryant wrote on Instagram. "We are grateful to the City of Philadelphia, @muralarts for welcoming this project and helping to make it a reality."

The new basketball court features the signature purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant's home for 20-years, in addition to decals of No. 24 (Kobe Bryant's jersey number) and No. 2 (Gianna Bryant's jersey number) wrapped in a heart at each free throw line. Midcourt features butterflies surrounding Kobe and Gianna's names.

The court is surrounded by several murals of Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant, including a special quote from the NBA Hall of Famer: "Dedication makes dreams come true."

Tustin Playground is one of three Dream Courts created by the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation and Nancy Lieberman Charities.

"Especially grateful to our @mambamambacitasports collaboration with (Nancy Lieberman) to build these @dream_courts," Vanessa Bryant wrote in another post. "She embodies everything Kobe and Gianna valued in her fight to empower women in sports and provide opportunities for underserved athletes."

Hundreds of Kobe Bryant murals have been created all over the world since his death. Bryant and eight others, including his daughter Gianna, died in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
