Influencer on a mission to normalize Black men wearing makeup

Nigerian beauty influencer Damilola Adejonwo has a deep passion for makeup and wants Black men to discover that the medium is a genderless form of self-expression. In June of 2020, the makeup guru’s TikTok makeup video went viral on Twitter. It showed him getting ready in full glam and has since amassed over 40,000 likes. In an interview with OkayAfrica, Adejonwo explained that his main approach to normalizing makeup for men is to show that you can wear it in subtle ways that may be more comfortable for most men. He even started a series on his YouTube channel showing how easy it is to apply for beginners. “I love this series so much because it is opening beauty standards among men that aren’t accepted, especially for Black men,” Adejonwo said.
