Knicks Injury Tracker: Julius Randle undergoes successful arthroscopic surgery on left ankle

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle (30) looks on during a break in play against the Orlando Magic.

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Knicks players...

June 3, 10:15 a.m.

The Knicks announced that Julius Randle underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday.

The power forward is expected to be ready for training camp in the fall and should make a full recovery for the start of the 2023-2024 season.

Randle played through a pair of significant ankle injuries during the final stretch of the Knicks' season. He missed the last five games of the regular season with a sprained left ankle, but was able to return for the playoffs.

Randle then re-injured that same ankle in Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and as a result, missed Game 1 of the second round series with the Miami Heat. He returned for Game 2, but never quite looked like himself during the postseason.

In 77 regular season games, he averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game, which was good enough to earn All-NBA and All-Star honors.

May 12, 6:10 p.m.

Immanuel Quickley will miss his third straight game Friday as the Knicks will look to stave off elimination again in Game 6 without their top bench scorer.

Tom Thibodeau confirmed Quickley's status in his pre-game availability after the guard was listed as doubtful Thursday.

Thibodeau confirmed Quentin Grimes is "fine" after he hurt his knee in Game 5.

May 11, 5:08 p.m.

The Knicks' season will once again be on the line Friday night in Game 6, and it doesn't sound like Immanuel Quickley will be able to go.

Quickley, dealing with a sprained left ankle, has been listed as doubtful by the team.

The guard hasn't played since Game 3, when Bam Adebayo collided with him on a loose ball, with Quickley rolling his ankle and leaving the game.

May 10, 6:42 p.m.

Immanuel Quickley (ankle) was officially ruled out by the Knicks prior to their crucial Game 5 against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.

"Day-to-day, he's getting better but not quite ready," Tom Thibodeau said in his pregame meeting with the media.

Quickley was considered doubtful for Game 5 after missing Game 4 with the same sprained ankle. If the Knicks can win Wednesday, they'll force a Game 6 in Miami on Friday, May 12. Quickley may be able to play then.

Evan Fournier (illness) was also declared out for Wednesday's game.

May 9, 4:53 p.m.

The Knicks announced that Immanuel Quickley is officially doubtful for Wednesday's Game 5 vs. the Miami Heat due to his sprained left ankle.

Tom Thibodeau said before Game 4 that Quickly is still considered "day-to-day."

May 8, 6:07 p.m.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said before Game 4 against the Miami Heat that Immanuel Quickley will not play due to his sprained left ankle.

Thibodeau added that Quickley remains "day-to-day" with the ankle sprain. The guard exited the Knicks' Game 3 loss in the fourth quarter after fighting for a loose ball with Bam Adebayo and was previously listed as doubtful for Monday's game.

May 7, 5:11 p.m.

The Knicks released their official injury report ahead of Monday's Game 4, and guard Immanuel Quickley has been listed as doubtful due to his sprained left ankle.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said earlier in the day that Quickley was considered "day-to-day" with the team wanting to see how he feels on Monday.

May 7, 1:00 p.m.

Tom Thibodeau said on Sunday morning that guard Immanuel Quickley is "day-to-day" with a sprained left ankle.

"We'll see where he is [Monday]," Thibodeau said.

Quickley left the Game 3 loss in the fourth quarter after he and Bam Adebayo got tangled up while going for a loose ball.

May 6, 6:50 p.m.

Immanuel Quickley left the Knicks' Game 3 loss to the Heat in the fourth quarter with a sprained ankle, per coach Tom Thibodeau.

Quickley seemed to have fallen over a Heat player while going for a ball and limped to the locker room. He never returned. Thibodeau said that they will re-evaluate him Sunday and they should have an update then.

Jalen Brunson was hobbled in the fourth quarter, and when Thidoeau was asked about it, he simply said, “He may have tweaked it. Haven’t gotten a medical report yet."

Game 4 is scheduled for Monday night in Miami.

May 6, 2:07 p.m.

Prior to Saturday's Game 3, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau revealed that Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle are "ready to go."

Both players had been questionable prior to Game 2 with ankle injuries, but both were able to play in Game 2.

Thibodeau stopped short of revealing his starting lineup, but with both Brunson and Randle in the starting five on Wednesday, it's likely they'll be there again.

As for the Heat, both Jimmy Butler (ankle) and Caleb Martin (back) are available in Game 3.

May 5, 5:45 p.m.

Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle were not listed on the Knicks' injury report for Game 3 in Miami on Saturday afternoon.

Brunson and Randle had been questionable prior to Game 2 with ankle injuries, but both were able to play in New York's win to even the series on Wednesday.

For the Heat, Jimmy Butler, who missed Game 2 after rolling his ankle late in the 4th quarter of Game 1, is questionable. Miami also listed guard Caleb Martin as questionable with a back injury.

May 5, 1:10 p.m.

Jalen Brunson did much more during the Knicks practice on Friday than he did the previous day, head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters.

The Knicks guard has been dealing with a sore right ankle, an injury he picked up in the Game 1 defeat.

"I would say I'm ready to go," Burnson said when asked how he would rate his health ahead of Saturday's game.

Brunson, who was a game-time decision for Game 2 on Wednesday, scored 30 points on 10-for-19 shooting (6-for-10 from beyond the arc) with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 39 minutes in New York's 111-105 win to even the series.

May 2, 7:00 p.m.

Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson will both be available to play in Game 2 on Tuesday night against the Miami Heat, the team announced.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said prior to the game that both Randle and Brunson would be game time decisions, as they then went through warm-ups and the medical staff cleared them to play.

Randle missed Game 1 due to an ankle injury that he suffered in Game 5 of their first-round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brunson appeared on the injury report after Game 1 with a sore right ankle and was listed as questionable for Game 2.

Additionally, Miami star Jimmy Butler was ruled out for Game 2 prior to tip-off due to a sprained ankle. Butler led the Heat to a Game 1 victory with 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in 43 minutes of action.

May 1, 5:00 p.m.

The Knicks are listing Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson as questionable heading into Tuesday’s Game 2 against the Miami Heat.

Randle left the series finale against the Cavs after re-aggravating an ankle injury he suffered late in the season. The forward returned to practice last week but was unable to make it back for Game 1.

Brunson is a new addition to the injury report with a sore right ankle. He played 40 minutes in Game 1 and recorded 25 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

April 30, 12:25 p.m.

The Knicks ruled Julius Randle (left ankle sprain) out for Game 1 on Sunday. Quentin Grimes (shoulder contusion) was available to come off the bench.

Josh Hart and Obi Toppin were in the starting five.

April 30, 11:30 a.m.

Though Tom Thibodeau told reporters that both Julius Randle (ankle) and Quentin Grimes (shoulder) are game-time decisions, it sounds like Randle won’t be able to go.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Randle is expected to be out for Game 1 against the Miami Heat.

Randle, who sprained his left ankle late in the season, came back in time to be ready for the series but then re-aggravated the injury in Game 5.

With Randle out, Obi Toppin will likely slide into the starting five.

April 29, 1:00 p.m.

The Knicks announced Saturday that Julius Randle and Quentin Grimes are both questionable for Sunday afternoon’s Game 1 against the Miami Heat.

Randle left Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers with two minutes remaining in the second half after rolling the same left ankle that kept him out the final five games of the regular season.

Randle wasn't able to do much in Friday's practice, but afterwards, head coach Tom Thibodeau said he was "hopeful" the forward would be ready for Game 1.

Grimes, on the other hand, was able to practice in full. After missing the final two games of the first round series with a right shoulder contusion he expects to be able to return to the starting lineup on Sunday.

April 27, 11:03 a.m.

Second-year big man Jericho Sims underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn labrum and cuff tendon in his right shoulder, the Knicks announced.

The 24-year-old had fallen out of the rotation as of late, but averaged 3.4 points on 77.6 percent shooting and 4.7 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per night over 52 games (16 starts) this season. He last played on April 7.

Sims was selected with the No. 58 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft out of Texas and is expected to be ready to return to the court in September for training camp.

April 26, 10:05 p.m.

After the Knicks' Game 5 series-clinching win, coach Tom Thibodeau spoke briefly about Julius Randle's ankle injury.

"It would be premature for me to comment," Thibodeau said before confirming Randle will have his ankle re-examined Thursday. "We're hopeful that it's not bad."

SNY's Ian Begley says that Randle was walking cautiously in the locker room after the game and that sources say the early impression is the sprain is not as severe as Randle’s prior ankle ailment.

Randle rolled the same left ankle that kept him out the final five regular-season games in the waning minutes of the first half. Randle did not return to the game but did sit in street clothes with his teammates near the bench.

Prior to his injury, Randle scored 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting along with four rebounds and six assists in 16 minutes.

April 26, 8:12 p.m.

Julius Randle left Wednesday night's Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers with an apparent ankle injury. With less than two minutes left in the second quarter, Randle landed on Caris LeVert's foot after going for a rebound. The forward's left ankle, the same ankle that cost him the final five regular-season games, twisted and Randle crumbled to the ground.

After a few seconds, Randle was helped to his feet and he limped to the locker room.

When he left, Randle had 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting along with four rebounds and six assists in 16 minutes.

Before the start of the second half, the Knicks declared Randle "doubtful" to return.

April 26, 5:32 p.m.

Tom Thibodeau announced before the game on Wednesday that Quentin Grimes will be a game-time decision against the Cavaliers as the Knicks look to close out their first-round series in Cleveland.

This announcement is similar to Game 4 in which Grimes ultimately didn't play and Josh Hart got the starting nod. Grimes hasn't played since Game 3 after suffering a right shoulder contusion.

April 25, 4:33 p.m.

The Knicks, up three games to one, have a chance to end the Cavaliers' season on Wednesday night, though they may once again be without Quentin Grimes.

The Knicks announced that Grimes, dealing with a contused right shoulder, is questionable to play in Game 5, while big man Jericho Sims (sore right shoulder) is out.

Grimes did not play in Sunday's Game 4 win over the Cavs, with Josh Hart stepping into the starting five.

April 23, 12:34 p.m.

Quentin Grimes (right shoulder contusion) has officially been ruled out for the Knicks’ Game 4 matinee against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters earlier in the day that Grimes would be a game-time decision, and now we know Grimes won’t be available.

In Grimes’ place, Josh Hart will get the start. Hart has averaged 11.7 games off the bench through the series’ first three games.

April 23, 11:28 a.m.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters on Sunday morning that Quentin Grimes (right shoulder contusion) will be a game-time decision for Game 4 against the Cavaliers.

Grimes played just 13 minutes in Game 3 before leaving with his shoulder injury. For the series, Grimes is averaging 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

April 22, 5:30 p.m.

The Knicks announced on Saturday that Quentin Grimes is questionable for Game 4 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday after leaving Game 3 with a right shoulder contusion.

April 21, 11:55 p.m.

Quentin Grimes left Game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers towards the end of the second quarter and was diagnosed with a right shoulder contusion.

He was initially ruled questionable to return, but did not come back in the game.

Grimes headed to the locker room just before halftime and was holding his shoulder. He played only 13 minutes during the win and scored two points on 1-for-5 shooting. After the game, coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed the contusion but did not give an update.

The Knicks' next game is set for Sunday afternoon.

April 18, 7 p.m.

Prior to the start of Game 2, the Knicks announced that Josh Hart is available to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters before the game that Hart would test out his ankle in warm up and a decision would be made. Hart said his status for Game 2 is based on pain tolerance.

April 18, 3:34 p.m.

The outlook on Josh Hart playing in Tuesday’s Game 2 keeps getting better and better.

After being upgraded from doubtful to questionable earlier in the day, Hart is now “expected to play,” per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hart had 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench in the Game 1 win, and despite spraining his ankle in the closing minutes, he sounds good to go for Game 2.

April 18, 11:15 a.m.

Josh Hart appears to be headed in the right direction, with the Knicks announcing on Tuesday morning that his Game 2 status has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable.

Hart sprained his left ankle during the final minutes of the Game 1 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he played through it and had a huge impact in New York securing the victory.

Hart didn't formally meet with reporters on Tuesday morning, but Zach Braziller of the New York Post reported that Hart is walking without a limp, saying he feels "good."

April 17, 5:07 p.m.

Josh Hart played a huge role in the Knicks’ Game 1 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his status going into Tuesday’s Game 2 is not looking positive as the team listed him as doubtful with a sprained left ankle.

Hart suffered the ankle injury late in Game 1, though it didn’t stop him from hitting a huge go-ahead three with under two minutes to play.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters on Monday that Hart only did “parts of practice,” and that the team will see how the Villanova product is feeling on Tuesday before making a determination on whether or not he can play in the series’ second game.

“Usually with sprains like that, it’s more how you feel the next day,” Thibodeau said. “He said he felt fine in the game, and we’ll see where he is tomorrow.”

Hart had 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench in Game 1, which was his first career playoff game.

April 15, 4:27 p.m.

Julius Randle is expected to play in the Knicks' Game 1 matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, per SNY's Ian Begley.

Barring an "unexpected issue" during his pre-game warmups, the All-Star forward will play as the Knicks play in their first postseason game since 2021.

The team confirmed Randle is available and starting in Saturday's game shortly before tip-off.

Randle has missed time due to a left ankle sprain he suffered in late March. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday that Randle was targeting playing in Game 1 but a final decision would come after warmups.

April 14, 5:35 p.m.

Julius Randle is targeting Game 1 against the Cavs as his return to the Knicks, according to a report Friday afternoon by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

"Randle has been steadily improving and plans to test his left ankle prior to gametime before making a final decision on rejoining lineup for Game 1," Wojnarowski wrote on Twitter.

Around the same time the news broke, the Knicks officially listed Randle as questionable with a sprained left ankle for Saturday's 6 p.m. tip-off in Cleveland.

April 12, 1:10 p.m.

Julius Randle did not practice in full on Wednesday and has yet to be cleared for contact, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said.

When asked if the team was optimistic for Randle to be ready for Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night, Thibodeau said, "It's hard to say."

"You just take it day by... the thing that I like is that each day has been better," he continued. "You know if he's ready, he's ready. If he needs more time, we'll give him more time."

Randle, who sprained his left ankle on March 29, participated in some parts of practice similar to what he did on Tuesday.

"Continued progress, doing well overall," Thibs said.

April 11, 2:40 p.m.

Julius Randle could be able to return to the court for Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.

Randle has not yet been cleared for contact, but did some shooting and running at Tuesday morning's practice.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said the star power forward has made “good, steady progress” each day.

While Thibodeau wouldn't officially say whether Randle would be ready for Game 1, SNY's Ian Begley noted that it sounds like Randle is trending in the right direction.

Randle missed New York’s final five games of the regular season after suffering a sprained right ankle on March 29 against the Miami Heat. Prior to that, he had appeared in every game and was averaging 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.

In Randle's absence, Obi Toppin stepped up for the Knicks, contributing 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

April 7, 2:16 p.m.

Big man Mitchell Robinson (rest) will not play on Friday when the Knicks take on the New Orleans Pelicans, the team announced.

Robinson is coming off of a 14-point, 16-rebound, seven-block performance on Wednesday in the team's win over the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks are already locked into the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference and will play one more regular season game on Sunday against the Pacers after their contest on Friday night.

April 5, 6:12 p.m.

The Knicks announced that point guard Jalen Brunson will not suit up for Wednesday night's matchup with the Pacers in Indiana due to right hand maintenance, and wing RJ Barrett will also be sidelined due to illness.

Brunson missed some time in late March due to a sprained right hand, and with the Knicks locked into the No. 5 seed in the East, it would make sense to give players like Brunson some rest before the playoffs start.

Brunson played 39 minutes against the Washington Wizards on Sunday, scoring 27 points with eight assists.

Barrett also missed Sunday's game against Washington due to illness.

April 2, 2:55 p.m.

The Knicks announced that RJ Barrett has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the Washington Wizards due to illness.

Barrett has played in 71 of the Knicks’ 78 games this season and hasn’t missed a game since Feb. 5.

The Knicks can clinch a playoff spot with a win.

March 30, 5:00 p.m.

The Knicks announced that Julius Randle sprained his left ankle in Wednesday's win over the Miami Heat, and that the forward will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

A two-week timeline would mean Randle won’t get evaluated again until April 13, and the Knicks’ regular season ends on April 9 against the Indiana Pacers.

Randle injured his ankle in the second quarter on Wednesday night, landing on Bam Adebayo's foot while coming down with a rebound.

March 29, 8:55 p.m.

Julius Randle left the Knicks’ crucial matchup against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night with a sprained ankle he suffered in the final few minutes of the second quarter.

Randle grabbed an offensive rebound when he landed on the foot of the Heat’s Bam Adebayo, twisting his ankle. The All-Star forward was in visible pain as he stayed on the floor for a bit before he tried to walk it off. The Madison Square Garden crowd chanted “MVP” as Randle got himself ready to shoot two free throws.

If Randle was unable to shoot the free throws, he could not come back into the game. He would make one of two before leaving for the locker room. When he left, Randle had three points on 1-of-5 shooting and five rebounds.

Prior to the start of the second half, the Knicks announced that Randle will not return to the game.

March 29, 6:51 p.m.

The Knicks announced that Jalen Brunson (sprained right hand) is available to play Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

Brunson was designated as questionable on Tuesday, but before the game coach Tom Thibodeau said that the guard will warm up with the team, and if his hand felt ok he will play.

The Knicks could definitely use Brunson who has been an integral part of the team's success this season. With Miami three games behind them in the standings, a win will give New York a stranglehold as one of the top six seeds in the Eastern Conference.

Jimmy Butler, the veteran guard for the Heat, is also available to play Wednesday as he was questionable with a sore neck.

March 28, 5:49 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sprained right hand) is questionable for Wednesday matchup against the Miami Heat.

Brunson, who missed the Knicks' win over the Houston Rockets on Monday, could miss his second game in a row, and it could be an important one. The Knicks hold the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, and are 2.5 games up on the Heat.

The Knicks have a 2-1 record against Miami and would clinch the season series with a win at The Garden on Wednesday.

In addition, Derrick Rose is also questionable with an illness.

March 27, 6:30 p.m.

The Knicks announced that Jalen Brunson (sprained right hand) will be out for Monday's game against the Houston Rockets.

Brunson will miss his second straight game after not playing in last Thursday night's defeat at the Orlando Magic.

March 26, 12:56 p.m.

Jalen Brunson has officially been listed as questionable for Monday's matchup with the Houston Rockets.

Dealing with a sprained right hand, Brunson missed Thursday's game against the Orlando Magic, a 111-106 loss.

Brunson is averaging a career-best 23.8 points per game this season, his first in New York.

March 23, 6:30 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sprained right hand) is out for Thursday's 7 p.m. game at the Orlando Magic, the Knicks announced.

Mitchell Robinson (contused right knee) is available, New York added.

The Knicks (42-32) enter the Magic (30-43) on the second night of a back-to-back, after Wednesday's 127-120 loss at the Miami Heat.

Against the Heat (40-34), Brunson scored 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting while adding six rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes.

Robinson nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points on a 4-for-4 mark from the field and eight rebounds through 25 minutes.

March 23, 12:25 p.m.

The Knicks announced that center Mitchell Robinson (right knee contusion) and point guard Jalen Brunson (sprained right hand) are questionable for Thursday night's matchup with the Orlando Magic.

Robinson had his knee hit during Wednesday's loss to the Miami Heat, though he told reporters after the game that he felt fine. The big man played 25 minutes, scoring 10 points with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Brunson has appeared in the past two games after missing the previous five with a left foot injury. In 37 minutes against the Heat, he scored 25 points while also contributing six rebounds and six assists.

March 18, 1:08 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) returned for Saturday afternoon's game against the Denver Nuggets and started for the Knicks alongside Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson.

The Knicks upgraded Brunson to available after Tom Thibodeau told reporters before the 1 p.m. tip-off at The Garden that Brunson felt "good" and was "going to warm up."

If Brunson still felt "good" after warmups, he would be "a go," to play for the Knicks, Thibodeau said.

Brunson reaggravated his foot injury during last Thursday's 122-117 road defeat against the Sacramento Kings. He has missed five of the Knicks' past six games. In his recent absence, New York has gone 3-3.

Through 62 games this season, Brunson is averaging 23.8 points and 6.1 assists in 34.9 minutes.

March 17, 12:56 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) could return for Saturday's game at The Garden against the Denver Nuggets.

Brunson practiced on Friday and will be listed as questionable for Saturday, head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters.

Brunson has missed three straight games and five total due to his foot injury.

He initially returned last week for the Knicks' game against the Kings in Sacramento but had to leave early after reaggravating the injury.

March 13, 9:05 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) is doubtful for the Knicks entering Tuesday's 10 p.m. game at the Portland Trail Blazers.

Brunson missed the Knicks' back-to-back stretch this past weekend in Los Angeles, Saturday's 106-95 loss at the Clippers and Sunday's 112-108 win over the Lakers, after he reaggravated his foot injury during last Thursday's 122-117 road defeat against the Sacramento Kings.

Brunson, who scored 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting in 19 minutes of the Knicks' loss to the Kings, previously missed last Sunday's 131-129 double-overtime win at the Boston Celtics and last Tuesday's 112-105 defeat against the Charlotte Hornets.

Through 62 games this season, Brunson is averaging 23.8 points and 6.1 assists in 34.9 minutes.

The Knicks (40-30) snapped a three-game skid in the win over the Lakers (33-35) and complete a four-game road trip with the 10 p.m. tip-off at the Blazers (31-37), who have lost three straight.

March 12, 2:54 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) was ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks announced.

Brunson received an X-ray on his foot Saturday that came back negative, head coach Tom Thibodeau said. The guard aggravated his sore foot on Thursday in the Knicks' loss to the Sacramento Kings and did not play against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

March 11, 3:23 p.m.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau revealed that guard Jalen Brunson received an X-ray on his sore foot, and that it came back negative.

The team is officially calling Brunson's ailment a "bruise" but he will miss Saturday's game against the Clippers. His status for Sunday against the Lakers is still unknown.

Isaiah Hartenstein (sore left ankle) told reporters before the game that he will play Saturday.

March 10, 8:02 p.m.

After aggravating his sore foot in the Knicks' loss to the Kings on Thursday, Jalen Brunson will miss Saturday's tip against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The team announced the decision Friday as the team prepares for a back-to-back against the Clippers and Lakers this weekend. Brunson scored 19 points in 19 first-half minutes of the Kings game before he could not go in the second.

The Knicks also announced center Isaiah Hartenstein (sore left ankle) is probable for Saturday.

March 9, 11:27 p.m.

Jalen Brunson left the Knicks' game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night with a sore foot. The team announced after halftime that he would not return. He had missed the prior two games with the same issue.

Prior to leaving, Brunson was leading the team with 19 points.

March 7, 5:55 p.m.

The Knicks announced that point guard Jalen Brunson has been ruled out for Tuesday night's game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said Brunson (foot soreness) is getting better but he is not quite healthy enough to play. Brunson missed Sunday's win over the Boston Celtics after sustaining the injury in the Knicks' win over the Miami Heat on Friday, March 3.

Thibodeau said Brunson will travel with the team for their upcoming four-game West Coast road trip which begins Thursday night in Sacramento. Thibs added he was not aware of the guard undergoing any further tests on his sore left foot.

Immanuel Quickley is once again expected to get the start in Brunson's place.

March 6, 4 p.m.

The Knicks announced on Monday that guard Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) is questionable for Tuesday's matchup with the Charlotte Hornets.

Brunson missed Sunday's win over the Boston Celtics and last played on Friday against the Miami Heat.

March 5, 6 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's matchup with the Boston Celtics.

March 5, 11:35 a.m.

The Knicks announced that Jalen Brunson (sore left foot) is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Boston Celtics.

Brunson scored 25 points in 35 minutes in the team's last-second win over the Miami Heat on Friday night.

He was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month on March 2 after averaging 27.3 points, 6.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game in February. He's helped lead the Knicks on their current eight-game winning streak as the team has moved up to the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference standings.

Feb. 24, 6:24 p.m.

The Knicks announced that Mitchell Robinson is available for Friday's game against the Washington Wizards.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said prior to the announcement that Robinson would be a game-time decision, but it seems he got through shootaround ok and will likely play his first game since Jan. 18.

Robinson was good enough to be in the starting five.

Feb. 23, 5:08 p.m.

While a final decision still hasn't been made, Mitchell Robinson is "progressing well" towards returning on Friday, according to head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Robinson went through practice again on Thursday and felt good, meaning Friday could be his first game action since Jan. 18.

The Knicks have officially ruled Robinson as questionable for Friday night's game against the Wizards, while Evan Fournier (non-Covid illness) has been ruled out.

Feb. 22, 1:54 p.m.

Knicks center Mitchell Robinson practiced on Wednesday, but head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters that he's not ready to commit to him playing on Friday, when New York returns to action following the All-Star break.

Robinson last played on Jan. 18, when he fractured his right thumb.

The injury required surgery the next day.

Robinson left Wednesday night's game against the Washington Wizards in the second quarter after injuring the thumb, and did not return.

After Toppin left New York’s Dec. 7 win over the Atlanta Hawks, the Knicks said the 24-year-old would be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks. But Toppin acknowledged Tuesday that he will need a "couple more re-evaluations" before he is able to make his return.

“Not really any pain, but I could not feel pain and it could still be messed up,” Toppin said, per the New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy. “So it’s all up to [the Knicks medical staff]. Whenever they feel I should be back, that’s when I’ll come back.”

Toppin's workouts are currently limited to spot-up shooting, pool work and upper-body lifting, according to Bondy.

"Basically following the protocol of what (Knicks head athletic trainer) Anthony (Goenaga) laid out for him -- and, so, it's a step-by-step thing -- 1 on 0, then 1 on 1, then 1 on 2, trying to get him up to the point where he can do full practice," Thibodeau said. "So there's parts that he can do, some that he can't. So just be patient, work our way through it."

Grimes last played Oct. 14 against the Washington Wizards, logging 16 minutes in the Knicks' preseason finale.
