We knew Miami was restaurant heaven. Now we know it’s the best foodie city in America

Nice try, Seattle. You were so close, Pittsburgh. Poor Austin — you didn’t even make the top 10, and neither did New York City.

But now for the good news: Miami is the best city for foodies in the nation, at least according to Apartment Guide.

To come to its conclusion, the rental website studied food data for cities of more than 100,000 people across the country, focusing on number of restaurants per capita, restaurant density per square mile of land area and the percentage of non-chain restaurants. Miami had the second-most restaurants per capita, behind Orlando (tourists get hungry).

Naturally, Apartment Guide singled out Cuban food as one of the options that sets Miami apart, especially Cuban sandwiches and coffee, which is right and just because Cuban coffee is the elixir of life. But it also praised some of the city’s other culinary highlights:

“Of course, Miami is more than just Cuban food. The diverse city offers up a variety of ‘Floribbean’ cuisine, combining Southern, Asian, Hispanic and Caribbean influences, as well as ceviche and a plethora of fresh seafood restaurants and top steakhouses. Not to be outdone, Miami is also home to the corporate offices of national chains Burger King and Benihana.”

The website also shouted out a couple of Miami restaurants — and not the fancy ones that will cost you a small fortune to try: Ms. Cheezious, Phuc Yea and Crust Pizza, which was the only Miami pizza spot to make The Daily Meal’s Best Pizzas in America list.

The guide also saluted La Carreta without even knowing it’s the best place to beat pots and pans should your sports team win a championship or when a dictator finally dies.

The only other Florida city in the top 20 was West Palm Beach at no. 14. Tampa weighed in at no. 24, with Orlando at no. 25 and, inexplicably, Hollywood at no. 30. (Don’t @ us, but if you do, please tell us where we should eat in Hollywood, because we have no idea).

Here are the top 10 foodie cities in the country, according to Apartment Guide:

Miami

Berkeley, California

Pittsburgh

Rochester, N.Y. (no, really)

Seattle

Honolulu

Stamford, Connecticut

New Haven, Connecticut

Minneapolis

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Miami is better than everyone at coffee. So why does this report say we’re not?
