Kliff Kingsbury on Larry Fitzgerald: ‘The ball’s in his court’

The Arizona Cardinals opened training camp Tuesday and, for the first time since he was drafted in 2004, Larry Fitzgerald was not there at the start of camp. That is, of course, because he is still a free agent and has not signed with the Cardinals or any other team for the 2021 season.

He has not yet decided whether he is going to play this season.

But the Cardinals have made it clear they want him back.

“The ball’s in his court,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the team completed the conditioning test Tuesday.

This is not the first time we have heard this. The Cardinals have said there is a place for Fitzgerald on the roster and a role for him if he comes back.

At the same time, they did not bank on his return. They signed A.J. Green in free agency and drafted Rondale Moore in the second round.

“We feel like we have great depth in that group regardless, but we’ll have a plan ready either way,” Kingsbury said.
