The following back-and-forth took place:
Thompson: "Today is the first of 13 meetings between these two teams this year. That's right, I said 13 meetings. Two preseason games, four regular season games and seven in the playoffs. How about that?!
Papa: "It's gonna go seven?! So what round are we talking about?"
Thompson: "Conference finals, man. You don't bring LeBron in to get eliminated in the second round."
So according to Mychal, the Warriors will play a Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals for a second straight year.
While that is possible, it will be extremely surprising if Golden State's opponent is the Lakers.
Why is Mychal so confident? (besides the fact that he bleeds Laker purple and gold and is a team broadcaster, of course)
"I think the young guys are gonna improve and get better as the season goes along. They got some smart veterans," Mychal explained. "JaVale is playing like he's playing in the Finals. He's playing like he learned a lot around that Warriors' winning culture up there.
"They've got a nice mix of veterans and youth on this team. And they know that they're not gonna outshoot the Warriors. So tonight -- let's look at it and they're gonna come out physical and start implementing their physical style against the Warriors this year.
"You're not gonna outshoot KD, Steph and Klay."
Thompson is certainly correct about his last comment.
Regardless of what happens, it's great that we have a budding Warriors-Lakers rivalry...
