With the movie “Avengers: Endgame” taking over the world, not even athletes in a hotly contested playoff series are immune to it. Ethan Strauss of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors recently saw the movie at a screening, but was not enthused. In fact, according to Strauss, he walked out of the movie after two hours.

Thompson conserves his energy for what he loves, and he’s always been impatient with any less than favored activity. There was amusement in Warriors land when, with an hour left in the film, Klay just got up and left a screening of “Avengers: Endgame.” The plot didn’t interest him, not enough to demand that much time and attention.

With an hour left and multiple storylines still unresolved, Thompson just left! To some fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that’s unimaginable. But to others, Thompson did what they always wished they had done during a long movie they weren’t enjoying.

That anecdote leaves several questions unanswered, though. Was that Thompson’s first time watching any movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Has he seen “Avengers: Infinity War,” which sets up the events of “Endgame?” Or any other MCU movie? We have no idea if Thompson is familiar with the series, which contains a jaw-dropping 22 total movies. If he went in completely cold, without having seen “Infinity War” or any other MCU film, you can see why he may not have been interested in a story that was built over 11 years and 21 previous movies.

Plus, “Endgame” clocks in at three hours and two minutes, which is really, really long. Two hours is what most people expect to spend watching a movie, so three hours is a huge commitment. And if Thompson wasn’t totally into “Endgame”? Giving it two hours seems about right.

The Klay Thompson/“Avengers: Endgame” story was used to illustrate that Thompson doesn’t spend time on things he doesn’t love, which is why he may appear to be less than engaged in the Warriors’ offense lately. But maybe cut the guy a break on “Endgame.” He gave it a chance, but it’s not for everyone!
