Kirby Smart talks Georgia QB room following Arch Manning news

Georgia may have missed out on Arch Manning, 2023’s No. 1 overall prospect who committed to Texas this week, but Kirby Smart has zero concerns regarding the depth and talent in UGA’s quarterback room.

Under Kirby Smart, Georgia has secured at least one quarterback in every recruiting class since 2016. As of now, Georgia has zero quarterbacks committed for the class of 2023, and also recently missed out on Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 class who committed to Ohio State.

But Smart appeared on the podcast Crain & Co. on Friday and discussed the quarterback room with plenty of confidence in the four scholarship guys he has on roster.

“I would easily say this is the best — when you take a picture of the whole room, top to bottom, those four guys that are going to meet in that quarterback room in fall camp — the most depth we’ve ever had, especially the most depth of kind of like the guys that I know and trust can play the position,” Smart told hosts Jake Crain, Blake Crain and David Cone.

Despite the news of Manning, Georgia is still loaded at the position, and CBS Sports recently ranked it as the fourth best quarterback room in the nation for 2022.

Stetson Bennett is back for his final year and he’ll be joined by Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff, plus true freshman Gunner Stockton. Beck and Stockton are former four-star recruits, while Vandagriff was a five-star in the class of 2021. At the moment, that’s the future of Georgia football at the position beyond 2022.

“You know, Brock’s been through a couple springs now. Carson’s been through a couple springs. I’ve gotten to see them in spring games. I’ve gotten to see them in game action. You get to see these guys really compete and grow. And obviously we know Stetson’s played in a lot of football games with what we saw last year. Gunner had some promising stuff in the spring. So, I really am excited about where those guys are.”
