Kilbuck Street ramp closing, limiting access to Route 65

GLENFIELD — Starting Wednesday, motorist using Route 65 may need to find a new way to access the state road.

PennDOT on Tuesday announced a long-term closure along northbound Route 65, preventing all traffic along the Kilbuck Street ramp starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Crews will close the road continuously until mid-June as they conduct painting operations and structural steel repairs.

During construction, PennDOT has recommended the following detour for the Kilbuck Street ramp:

  • From Kilbuck Street, motorist will turn onto Deer Run Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington

  • From southbound I-79, take the Neville Island (Exit 65) off-ramp

  • Turn right onto Grand Avenue

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79 toward Erie

  • From northbound I-79, take the Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66) off-ramp

  • Bear right toward Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley

  • Turn right toward North 65 Sewickley

  • End detour

A northbound Route 65 restriction will also take place along the Neville Island Bridge until construction is completed in mid-June. Painting and steel repairs will take place along the affected portions of the bridge.

The construction is a part of the $43 million I-79 Neville Island Bridge Rehabilitation Project that started last year. Traffic will be impacted periodically along the bridge throughout 2022, including four weekend closures to southbound traffic on the interstate by the end of the year.

The primary contractor for the project is Trumbull Corp. of Pittsburgh.

Motorists are advised to practice caution when driving in the area for the workers' safety. Drivers can check the condition of the road and project status live on the 511PA website and smartphone app.
