Kickoff and TV details announced for Penn State’s road game at Auburn

Penn State’s heavily anticipated road trip to Auburn now has an official kickoff time, and it is getting a prime TV slot on a network it doesn’t typically get the chance to play on these days. Penn State’s Week 3 contest at Auburn on September 17 has been set for a 3:30 p.m. eastern kickoff and the game will appear on CBS.

The mid-afternoon timeslot is the premier timeslot for CBS as it showcases the SEC Game of the Week at that time every Saturday during the course of the college football season (ESPN will soon be taking over the SEC Game of the Week, however). This will mark the beginning of CBS’ main SEC coverage for the 2022 season, and the Nittany Lions will hope to play spoiler on the road.

CBS revealed its full slate of college football programming for the upcoming season, including games on both CBS and CBS Sports Network. Penn State is the only Big Ten program to appear on any of the games carried by the CBS Sports family in 2022, unless one happens to play in the Sun Bowl at the end of the season.

Penn State will be appearing on CBS for the 26th time in program history. Its last appearance on CBS came back in 2000 in a loss to Pitt. So yeah, it’s been a while since Penn State fans got to hear one of the best college football themes on television during a Penn State game.

The Week 3 contest at Auburn is the first officially confirmed start time for Penn State in 2022, although the season opener at Purdue is locked into a Thursday night kickoff on FOX. The official kickoff time has yet to be revealed just yet though.

Penn State topped Auburn 28-20 in last September in Beaver Stadium in the first game of this home-and-home scheduling agreement. This will be Penn State’s first road game in an SEC stadium since visiting Alabama in 2010.
