Virginia Tech's hoops squad has seen some offseason attrition. Sophomore center Khadim Sy will pursue other opportunities.

The 6-10, 240-pound Sy started 28 games for the Hokies last year, averaging just over 10 minutes per game. In that time, he managed to score 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. While his 102.4 offensive rating was not among the best on the team, he was likely to play a bigger role as a sophomore.

Center/forward Zach LeDay graduated, power forwards Chris Clarke and Ty Outlaw have suffered knee injuries (Outlaw will miss the entire 2017-18 season), and Sy was slated to be the only returning Hokie standing over 6-5 tall. Kerry Blackshear, who missed 2016-17 with injury, and Nick Fullard, who sat last season after transferring from Belmont Abbey University, both stand 6-10 and will have to be the primary post players for the Hokies.
