Gausman thanks Giants fans after signing with Toronto originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Kevin Gausman departs San Francisco after putting together one of the most memorable seasons from a Giants pitcher in years.

Officially signing a five-year, $110 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, Gausman leaves behind a large hole in the Giants rotation. He explained his decision to sign with Toronto on a Zoom press conference with reporters before thanking Giants fans on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Signing as a free-agent with the Giants prior to the 2020 season, Gausman posted a 14-6 record with a 2.81 ERA in 192.0 innings pitched with 227 strikeouts in 2021, playing a huge role in San Francisco's record-setting 107-win season.

This offseason the Giants have signed free-agent pitchers Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood and most recently, Alex Cobb as they look to round out their rotation.

Without Gausman, though, they'll be looking to fill the void left by a Cy Young-caliber pitcher.
