Kevin Durant on new Nets: ‘We complement each other’

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant made his preseason debut on Friday versus the Milwaukee Bucks. In the process, he got his first in-game look at new Nets players Patty Mills, DeAndre Bembry and Jevon Carter.

It was interesting to see these three display their biggest strengths together on Friday in a 119-115 exhibition win. Mills was instant offense, scoring 10 points in 20 minutes off the bench, and Bembry and Carter provided instant defense for the entire game.

Durant knows that if these new Nets continue to have their strengths shine, it likely will lead to success. He also likes how the team is meshing with its new roster pieces.

“I think we fit around each other,” Durant after Friday’s game. “We complement each other. All of us, Patty, DB, bringing LaMarcus [Aldridge] back, even Paul [Millsap]. If your IQ is high, you’re not selfish out there, you care about your teammates, I think you can make things work.”

Carter, who went 3-of-4 on 3-pointers versus Milwaukee, seems to have improved his shooting this summer. Durant said he’s seen the guard’s potential since his college days.

“No it didn’t surprise me,” Durant said. “I watched him since West Virginia. Always felt like he had a quick trigger at the 3-point line, even in college, and I knew he was going to bring that with him to the league. He hangs his hat on the defensive side of the ball. Every time he steps on the floor he has an impact.”
