Kevin Durant clears up very little in first tweet since trade request from Nets

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant tweeted for the first time since he requested a trade ... and didn't reveal much. In his first tweet since the request, Durant talked about how hard he works.

Durant essentially said those who have played with him know how hard he works. It's unclear what prompted the tweet, or if Durant was responding to a specific person who questioned his work ethic.

When asked to clarify the tweet, Durant declined.

It was a curious choice, though not necessarily a shocking one, for Durant. He lives on Twitter and is always willing to spar with others if he disagrees with a take about his career.

In this instance, it's unclear why Durant felt compelled to defend his work ethic. That's never really been a question. Durant can be criticized for his willingness to chase rings, or his decision to leave the Nets after last season didn't go the way he expected, but there's no doubt he works hard at his craft. You can't really doubt the work ethic of a guy who has averaged 28.7 points in two seasons since an Achilles injury.

Kevin Durant trade request made waves in NBA

Durant's trade request came as a shock to other NBA stars. Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid responded to the news with an "LOL." Other players told fans to get their popcorn ready.

Durant reportedly wants to join the Phoenix Suns or Miami Heat, though the Nets don't have to grant that wish. Durant's final destination will ultimately depend on which team can offer the most. Some expect the trade package for Durant will be the largest in NBA history. Durant does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, so while he reportedly prefers the Heat or the Suns, he has little to no control over his destination if the Nets get a lucrative offer from another club.

Until then, Durant will likely continue to share his thoughts on Twitter, ensuring the NBA offseason never gets boring.
