Kentucky asked for and received money from the NCAA to help players' families attend the Final Four last year, according to the Indy Star:
Ohio State and Kentucky have successfully received money from the Division I Student Assistance Fund, which has provided more than $50 million a year to individual schools.
Ohio State helped parents of players with travel costs to last year’s Final Four. Kentucky officials asked and received permission from the Southeastern Conference to do something similar after hearing of Ohio State’s plans. It paid for one additional hotel room for three nights per each player’s family in New Orleans, associate athletic director DeWayne Peevy said. Total cost was a little more than $13,000.
“These parents had to pay for travel and lodging to get to this point,” Peevy said. “By that time, we thought it was justifiable to help them.”
