Nerlens Noel has been named to the SEC Community Service Team, the league announced Monday.
Noel has given "more than 100 hours of his time in the community since his arrival at UK," according to a release, which detailed the various projects Noel has been a part of this season:
-- Worked as a mentor at the New England Child Services “MARK” program this summer.
-- Made a surprise nursing home visit in Lexington, taking photos and conversing with residents.
-- Attended a Special Olympics autism event and signed autographs and spent time taking pictures. He was in attendance and cheered on players at a Special Olympics basketball event.
-- Volunteered at a children’s basketball camp and promoted Lane Goodwin (a young child with cancer) through social media to help send well wishes to him and his family.
-- Visited with children at the UK Children's Hospital on "a few occasions."
-- Participated in team-wide service events including a coat drive, the Hurricane Sandy telethon, volunteering at Campton Elementary school and with Samaritan’s Feet.
