If Kentucky and coach John Calipari gets left out of the NCAA Tournament, they will likely play in the NIT.

Both the coach and the program have brief but successful histories in that tournament.

Kentucky has competed in the NIT seven times, winning it twice. Four appearances came under Adolph Rupp; two came under Joe B. Hall; and one came under Billy Gillispie.

The full list of appearances and finishes:

-- 1944 (Third place)

-- 1946 (Champions)

-- 1947 (Runner-up)

-- 1950 (First Round)

-- 1976 (Champion)

-- 1979 (First round)

-- 2009 (quarterfinals)

And it would be Calipari's sixth appearance in the NIT. He went in his second and third years at UMass, and in his first, second and fifth year at Memphis.

-- 1990 (First round)

-- 1991 (Final Four)

-- 2001 (Final Four)

-- 2002 (Champion)

-- 2005 (Final Four)
