A new documentary focusing on Kentucky basketball's tradition is scheduled to air on Selection Sunday.
The documentary, "Bluegrass Kingdom: The Gospel of Kentucky Basketball," will be narrated by Drake. It will air on March 17 at 8 p.m. on TruTV, following the announcement of the NCAA tournament field.
"We wanted to show just how deep the roots go with this program to the sport of college basketball and to Kentucky," said Christina Miller, Turner Sports senior vice president of marketing and strategy. "It's a look at the program from all points of view and how it galvanizes a whole town and the state. They are the defending champions and the timing works out well, but it's really rich with story lines."
The documentary will cover most of Kentucky's history from Adolph Rupp through John Calipari. It will feature interviews by former coaches Calipari and Joe B. Hall, former Wildcat and current Miami Heat President Pat Riley, Ashley Judd, and former players Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jamal Mashburn, among others.
It will be produced and directed by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning film and television writer/director Michael Tolajian, who directed "Once Brothers" in ESPN's acclaimed "30 for 30" series.
