Kentucky announced the official addition of former Bucknell Bison forward Nate Sestina to the roster as a graduate transfer on Thursday during the second day of the spring signing period.
Sestina confirmed the announcement on social media with a picture of himself signing with UK along with the caption: "And I rock Kentucky blue..." He originally announced his commitment to the Wildcats two weeks ago following his visit to Lexington the day after UK's season-ending loss to Auburn in the NCAA Tournament.
"I think everyone knows my stance on graduate transfers. We are only going to take someone if it's going to help both the kid and our program," Kentucky coach John Calipari said in a statement. "I'm not going to take someone if they're not going to have an impact.
.".. Nate falls into that scenario in that he's achieved what he set out to do and now wants to take this thing to the next level. I'm excited to get to work with him because he's where the game is going. He has the ability to play in the post but he can stretch you out, which gives us the ability to play a little different and open things up more."
The 6-foot-9 Sestina averaged 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and shot 38 percent from the 3-point range for the Bison last season before deciding to finish his basketball career elsewhere. He is set to graduate next month with a degree in geography. Sestina has an additional year of eligibility left after four seasons at Bucknell, thanks to a medical hardship waiver, which was granted after playing just four games as a freshman due to a shoulder injury.
