Oubre explains mindset with new role coming off Warriors' bench originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Kelly Oubre appeared in 50 of the Warriors' first 52 games, and he started in every one of those contests.

But he has come off the bench the last two games following a five-game absence due to spraining his left wrist.

His new role -- and/or the injury -- certainly didn't slow him down Wednesday night against his former team, as Oubre recorded 24 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and one assist over 37 minutes in the Warriors' rough loss to the Washington Wizards.

"It's getting better gradually," the 25-year-old told the media. "But I don't really give things time to heal because I just want to play."

Does it impact his shot at all?

"Mind over matter," he said. "I don't allow it to -- try not to."

It's a very small sample size, but what does Oubre think about coming off the bench?

"I'm just here to help this team win," he said. "Whatever I can do to help this team, that's what I'm gonna do. Staying ready so I don't have to get ready."

When asked by a reporter if there was anything in particular Steve Kerr told him he'd like to see from the forward in his new role, Oubre answered with one word:

"No."

It sure seems like Kent Bazemore will remain in the starting lineup indefinitely, and it will be interesting to see how Oubre handles being the team's sixth man.

Then again, things can change very quickly in the NBA. And it won't be surprising whatsoever if Oubre is reinserted alongside Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney at some point in the coming weeks.
